When my husband and I started creating unique and meaningful family traditions, it wasn’t because we’d heard that focusing our lives on experiences rather than things create more lasting happiness. However, the more we’ve incorporated little traditions – like a hug and kiss hello or goodby. When you first arrive, you can expect a big hug from me.
Good morning and good night – we always tell each other good morning or good night and tell each other we love them.
The kitchen – The kitchen was our family meeting place. We all discussed our day, helped with food prep, setting the table, doing dishes, and just came together as a family. We have made so many memories at our kitchen table over the years.
Making birthdays special – Everyone’s birthday happens on day a year so for that special day we get together for a lunch or dinner to celebrate their special day. I find myself watching my children make their own memories together and reliving the joy and love of my own memories through them.
October brings getting ready for hunting season – My husband and son, grandkids have hunted here at our place for the last 17 years. So many memories over the years of the boys hunting together and bonding.
Puzzles – I always set up a table starting around November and keep it through to the New Year. We enjoy putting together Christmas puzzles. This year James our son pulled a prank on me and gave we a puzzle of a pile of white puppies. Well, when I opened it up there was a picture of dogs pooping. LOL!!!!
Thanksgiving – brings our family and extended family together for the last 26 years at our place. the memories of all our loved ones coming together and remembering all the past gatherings bring joy to my heart
Christmas is the favorite time of year for me – I love all the lights and decorations that Christmas brings. We have 6 large trees and not sure how many little trees I set up every year. Oh, and I can’t forget the Christmas village that always has something new added to it each year. We gather on Christmas Day for our family Christmas. We have lots and lots of food, joy and love.
Craft Days – every year Jennifer, Kristen and I get together and do Christmas crafting. So much fun and laughter while we are making our creations.
